Day 14 Mesa Verde & the Madonna

Slept in today till 8:00 a record for us and then drove out at 8:45 to beautiful bright sunlight heading east from Monticello and we’re back in farmers fields lands.
Stopped in Cortez Colorado and found out that Mesa Verde is open after all, so we’re going to do that today.

There was metered visiting into the Visitor Center. We did manage to get our Park stamp.
We saw 360° View from Park point overlook which was awesome.

More about Mesa Verde

Parkview sites was an amazing Mesa top farming community and where we walked around two different multi family structures.

Our next stop was Spruce Tree House cliff dwelling. We could walk half way to it, but no further. Took some good photos. Normally one can walk all around in the very large dwelling, but that was closed as well as all other buildings and tours into other cliff dwellings…except for a small gift shop and restaurant where we had lunch.

We proceeded to Albuquerque, where we located the Daughters of the American Revolution Madonna of the Trail located there and got photos. Get the full story here: https://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/route66/madonna_of_the_trail_albuquerque.html

There are 11 Madonnas total stretching across east to west coast aliong old trails.

We ended up in Vaughn NM at an RV camp for the night, all hotels full.

Total miles 5658.
