Day 8, Stonehenge, England

After arriving in port at Southampton, there was an option for one more excursion. Several of us chose Stonehenge. After stowing our luggage beneath the bus, we headed west to Stonehenge.

There were the cutest grass thatch covered homes and buildings on the way there. For historical reasons, once there is a thatch then if it needs repair or replacement, it must be done with the same grass thatch, which now must be imported since those grass fields are long gone. Quite an expensive job to maintain historic looks.

On the way we passed the famous Salisbury Cathedral. It was built in 1220, completed in 1239. You can see the spire for miles, but we were on a moving bus and still far away, no good photo today!

On the way to our London hotel, we did pass Windsor Castle and caught a glimpse of it from the moving bus.

We were dropped at the airport near our hotel. Once we rested a bit, five of us met at the bar and had a nice drink, before continuing to a nice meal in the restaurant. At the bar, I chose a locally brewed ale. Being in London, most of us elected to dine on fish and chips. OK, so I broke a piece off the fish, eager to eat it, then remembered to take the photo.

I said in the first post that this was to be a dream come true trip. It did not disappoint! The blog should help me to remember it always.
