Day 5 to Sidney Montana

Today was a long day of driving. Approximately 340 miles.

Our first stop was Washburn, ND at the Interpretative Center. This is near Mandan, where L&C spent their first winter with the Mandan Native Americans. Exhibits and replica of Fort Mandan. There was a statue of Seaman, Clark’s 150 pound Newfoundland(dog).

Lunch was at Garrison, SD. Cute cafe and ice cream shop. Delicious malts. Fleischkuekle and Indian taco. No diet today!

The next stop was Fort Buford and Missouri-Yellowstone river confluence. That is where they meet for us ordinary folk. Did you know that before the glaciers pushed it south the Missouri River ran to Hudson Bay?

We are in Sidney Montana at a motel for the night since there was a light rain and 20 mile an hour winds. We might have blown away.

Dinner was a grand slam grilled cheese. Barbecue pulled pork, bacon, and cheddar cheese. Jalapeños optional. Yum yum yum. Washed down with a “Harvester” cream ale.

For you Billy watchers, he is in several pictures. I challenge you to find him.

Total miles so far 1829.
