Day 6 SFT, Liberal KS to Santa Fe NM

We spent most the day on the road stopping at sites that we found interesting. We stopped at the Cimarron National Grassland station and had a very nice visit with the ranger there.

Further along there was a Cimarron Heritage Center/Museum north of Boise City, New Mexico. It had a fantastic collection of historical items. They gave us directions there to Autograph Rock. But first before going out to the rock we had lunch at the Bluebonnet Cafe in Boise City. Good Eats.

We zigzagged our way to Autograph Rock, where people taking the Santa Fe Trail area in the 1800s carved their names and dates visited into the rock.

We headed west again, finding Rabbit Ears landmark. As we entered Springer, NM, we began to clearly see a lot of fire smoke. Further south, from Las Vegas, we saw an airplane flying low over the fire area with a long ramp out the back. Any ideas?

We arrived at our log cabin airbnb and settled in for the evening.
